I.                 Edit … Preferences (Notice the right and left advance arrows in the upper left corner)

A.  Audio I/O

o   Playback Devices

o   Recording Devices

§  Channels – set to Mono

o   Check “Play other tracks while recording new one” if necessary

B.  Quality – Use default

C.  File Formats

o   Check “Make a copy of the file before editing”

o   Uncompressed Export Format should be WAV

o   Click the “Find Library” button and locate LAME (for saving as MP3)

II.               Checking audio devices

             A.      Start … Settings … Control Panel … Sounds and Audio Devices … Volume … Audio Tab

                                                    i.     Sound recording … Volume … Microphone tab and click Select

                                                   ii.     Click the Voice Tab and make sure the correct microphone is selected and click

                                                          “Test hardware” and follow the directions from the wizard.
